Abba Racing continue to race on the British GT grid in 2025 with the father/son partnership of Richard and Sam Neary continuing with the team for a sixth season. They will continue to contest the GT3 category in their Mercedes-AMG that they have raced in since 2020.
However, some changes to the team have been noted as Sam’s FIA license has been re-graded over the winter period as he now becomes a gold driver. This means that the team is no longer able to compete in the silver-am class and make the step up to the Pro-Am class for 2025.
Last season saw a mixed bag of results for the team as they had highs of a couple of podium finishes last season but had retired from the sole overseas round at Spa-Francorchamps and a disqualification from the penultimate round at Donighton Park. The team finished eighth in the overall standings come seasons end and were runners-up in the Silver-Am class.
Richard Neary went on to say: “Silver-Am gave us regular class podium opportunities but we’ve always had loftier ambitions than that. I think it’s remarkable that a small, family-run team can have the sort of success that we’ve enjoyed at this level. Our aim has always been to fight with the bigger, multi-car teams and that won’t change this year now we’re in Pro-Am. I take a lot of pride in the fact that Sam has been upgraded to gold thanks to his performances with Abba.”
Sam Neary also made a comment on what the team hopes for 2025: “To be absolutely clear, the gold sparkle isn’t a reflection of my new FIA grading! We weren’t at our best in 2022 and ’23 so it was nice to remind a few people of what we could do last year. As a combination, we undoubtedly have the potential to challenge the factory-supported crews, and that’s something we’re hoping to do on a more consistent basis this year. Top five in the final championship standings would represent a massive achievement.”
