After spending 4 years with WSR and BMW, Adam Morgan will make a move away from the rear wheel driven car and move to a front wheel driven Hyundai, but what does this move mean for the 36-year-old?

This will not be the first time the driver from Lancashire will be in a front wheel drive car in the BTCC, as before joining the BMW squad in 2021, he had driven the Mercedes A-Class for the seven seasons previous as well as the Toyota Avensis in 2012 and 2013. This gives him a significant amount of experience in this type of car as the difference in driving the front wheel drive cars and the rear wheel drive BMW is quite significant.

Across Adam Morgan's BTCC career, he has taken multiple victories in both types of cars but could the switch to Hyundai bring him up the field further?

While all this is hypothetical, statistically comparing the switch is quite good move for Morgan. His average podiums per season in the nine seasons he was in a front wheel drive car is a 3.44 and is increased to an average of 4.28 across his seven seasons in the A-Class Mercedes. Meanwhile his 4 seasons in the rear-wheel drive BMW left him with an average podium finish of 2.75.

2024 saw the first time since 2014 the former BMW driver would only score a sole podium place. Even though he did end up in a few unfortunate incidents like the first race of the Brands Hatch finale, Morgan finished the season eighth in the standings. However, with a slightly smaller grid than previous years and a much better overall season in seasons like 2015 and 2018 where he finished significant closer to championship rivals which also included race wins, it wasn't the best of seasons from him.

But, a return to front wheel drive could put him in the right direction especially with a team like Team Vertu and Hyundai. Having consistently managed to get race wins and podiums in the Mercedes and a few more years of experience under his belt. Morgan could see a renaissance with Hyundai as he could find his driving style is much more suited for the front wheel drive layout compared to the rear wheel drive BMW.

With a massive mix up of the field this year, Morgan is slowly becoming one of the more experienced drivers on the grid. He could help bring forward Hyundai alongside teammates Tom Ingram and Tom Chilton. With a stronger lineup for 2025, Hyundai are much better contenders for taking the Manufacturers Title away from BMW and the Teams Championship from the Ford backed NAPA Racing UK. Morgan looking for a stronger 2025, will be hoping to take himself back to the top step of the podium on more than one occasion by seasons end.
