The Legends series returns with 2 rounds taking place at Oulton Park and with 5 different drivers taking victories across the 4 heats and 2 finals, the fast-paced action never stopped across all the races.
Ross Marshall had a great start in Round 3 Heat One to take the lead before Will Gibson took the lead away from him. Marshall would drop another place to Jack Parker to drop to third before Stephen Treherne, who started 11th, made his way by at the end of lap one. Gibson had a 1.6 second lead over Parker and Treherne heading onto lap 3 but the pairing would begin to work together to bring the gap down. Gibson had looked like he had done enough but Treherne just pipped him at the line by less than a tenth taking victory. Gibson would finish second ahead of Parker in third while Conner Mills and Oli Schlup round out the top 5.
Tyler Read had started in 20th in Heat One and had made his way to finish 6th by the end of the race. Starting at the back in Heat One meant he started on pole for Heat Two. He led early on before Moylan made to move to the lead. Read would drop one more position to third after Needham passed him. Needham and Parker fought hard on lap 3 to the point they locked-bumpers taking them out of any chance of winning. Read to the lead back from Moylan and looked to hold onto it for a few laps before Moylan took a last opportunity move which caused Read to go straight on. Moylan would finish in 1st ahead of Mills and Gibson, who started 17th, while Parker and Read round out the top 5.
The final for round 3 saw Peter Barrable start from pole and take an initial lead before Steve Whitelegg came by part way through the opening lap. Needham, on an early charge made his way to the lead through the tricky conditions. Andy Bird would start fighting Needham for a couple of laps before he fell of the circuit on lap 4 leaving Needham to control the race to the finish comfortably to take the win. Behind him, Read would finish second ahead of Schlup while Mills took fourth from Treherne on the last lap to round out the top 5.
Round 4 Heat One would see Mills take the lead at the start from second place putting him ahead of Bird. However, by the end of lap 1, neither of them crossed the line in first as Parker moved his way to the front before Schlup took a turn out in front after making the move on lap 2. Meanwhile, Gibson, who had started from 10th position, had moved himself into the podium battle before making his way by Schlup on lap 4. Treherne and Read hot on the leaders’ heels having started towards the back end of the pack meant it was an intense fight over all 3 of the podium places. Gibson lost the lead to Schlup on lap 5 and despite his best efforts, Schlup took the victory by a hundredth of a second. Read and Treherne battled to the line, but it was Treherne who claimed the final podium spot by less than half a tenth.
Heat 2 saw Treherne make an early lead fighting Moylan throughout the opening couple of laps before Moylan got by. Treherne would lose another spot dropping to third as Read made a decisive move while Gibson trailed behind. Disaster would strike for Moylan though as he would have an engine failure dropping him out of the lead. Read would open up the gap quickly after this to take a comfortable victory while Schlup took a runner-up spot and Pett took his first podium since his 18-month period of being out of action due to injury. Treherne had car issues as well which meant that he would drop out of the running on the final lap leaving Mills, Bird and Marshall to pick up the extra positions to complete the top six.
The final race of the bank holiday weekend saw a wet start with Needham blistering into second from seventh place by the exit of turn 1. Needham wouldn’t wait long to take the lead quickly and make a break away from the rest of the pack. Read and Bridgeman came together on lap one dropping them to the back of the pack and a lot of recovery to do. Parker had made inroads on Needham as the track became more slippery as heavier ran fell. Parker made the move for the lead on lap 5 before Needham hammered back to reclaim the top spot on the final lap. But, neither of the two would end up coming out on top as Schlup was a man on a mission coming from 20th on the grid to go for a move a Cascades for the lead and successfully claim a second win of the day from Needham and Parker while Barrable and Treherne round out the top 5.
The standings at the end of the weekend see both the Overall and Elite Cup standings led by Oli Schlup. Meanwhile, Tyler Read followed close in second in the standings for both championships. Connor Mills would claim 3rd in the Overall championship with Will Gibson and Jack Parker rounding out the top 5 in the standings. Gibson would place one place higher in the Elite Cup standings having made it to third place in the Cup.
